Android 8 - O, Oreo name is likely to be confirmed by Google executive
It feels like Android Nougat was officially launched just days ago, but it was in fact first brought into the light ahead of Google I/O, in March of last year. And with Google I/O 2017 almost upon us, we all expect the next developer preview of the new Android version.
And Google knows what we're most excited about. Quite honestly, it's not the new features. Currently, everyone's main concern about the next Android is its name. Oreo is the one that most people bet on and now they have a good reason for it.
Hiroshi Lockheimer, SVP of Android, Chrome OS and Play, has tweeted a GIF of an Oreo cake, hinting that the next Android version might as well be named after the famous cookies. And if Google sticks to its regular schedule, we'll know for certain in the beginning of March.
Keep in mind that Lockheimer has "leaked" some names that didn't make it to the official release for one reason or another. Also, internal development names and final release names offer differ. So, do take the tweet with a grain of salt. Especially considering this earlier tweet:

Of course, we're also curious what the new version will bring to the table, but considering we won't see it on any handset any time soon, we can worry about that later.
